Paolo D’Achille confirmed president of the Accademia della Crusca

“I thank my colleagues for the esteem and trust they have confirmed in me – declared President D’Achille -, thus giving me the opportunity to continue the coordination of the Academy towards objectives in step with the changing times and the evolution of national linguistic sensitivity. In the coming years the Accademia della Crusca will continue the numerous activities it has underway; but it will also launch new research projects and new initiatives dedicated to the Italian of yesterday and today (also in cooperation with other national bodies and research centers and international).

Paolo D’Achille (Rome 1955, academic name: “Integrale”), member since 2011, ordinary academic since 2013, member of the Board of Directors since 2017, Vice President since 2022 and President since 2023, is the first Roman linguist to rise to the top of the Crusca. Active in numerous linguistic societies and scientific committees, he has held important positions in the academic and editorial fields. His research activity focuses on the history of the Italian language, with particular attention to the relationship between spoken and written, the language of theater and melodrama, as well as contemporary Italian (neologisms, youth languages, media and regional varieties). He also studied the Roman dialect and the linguistic situation of Lazio. Author of numerous research and publications, he directs the Academy’s linguistic consultancy service. He has received important national and international recognition, including the honor of Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters of the French Republic. (by Paolo Martini)
