La Jornada: SAT: $1.7 billion, public income for the first quarter

From January to March, government revenues totaled one trillion 766 thousand 787 million pesos, a nominal growth of 46 thousand 856 million compared to the same period in 2025, reported the Tax Administration Service (SAT).

In the first quarter, tax collection reached one billion 575 thousand 409 million pesos; For value added tax (VAT), the SAT received 401,577 million pesos, 1,132 million more than in the same period of the previous year.

191,635 million pesos were obtained from the special tax on production and services (IEPS), 37,468 million more compared to the same period in 2025.

This year the IEPS for soft drinks, sugary drinks and juices went from 1.6451 to 3.8 pesos per liter, while an IEPS of 1.5 pesos per liter was applied for the first time to sweetened beverages without calories.

Serums that do not comply with the regulations of the World Health Organization pay an IEPS of 3.08 pesos per liter; Meanwhile, the quota on cigarettes was raised from 0.6445 to 0.8516 pesos per unit.

On the other hand, income tax revenue (ISR) totaled 899,923 million pesos in the first quarter.

By the end of 2026, the federal government expects tax collection to total 5.84 trillion pesos, 10.2 percent higher than the 2025 goal of 5.3 trillion pesos.

This expectation is subject to greater economic activity that boosts the collection of ISR and VAT, which as of last November had a participation of 54.05 and 27.93 percent, respectively, in total collection.
