Cycling: At the age of 37: professional cyclist Degenkolb extends his contract

The German professional cyclist John Degenkolb is continuing his career with the Picnic–PostNL team for at least another season. The 37-year-old announced this before his home race Eschborn-Frankfurt. “Today I can say: I won’t be there for the last time this year. I will definitely continue to be a professional cyclist next year and attack the 2027 season,” said Degenkolb to Hessischer Rundfunk (HR). His contract would have expired at the end of this year.

Degenkolb won Milan-Sanremo and Paris-Roubaix

Degenkolb’s greatest successes include victories at the cycling monuments Milan-Sanremo and Paris-Roubaix eleven years ago. In 2018 he also won a stage in the Tour de France and in 2011 he triumphed in Frankfurt. The classics specialist said he was extremely happy about the team’s trust and added: “And also for what still awaits me between now and the end of my career.”
