Trump criticizes Iranian proposal and announces new US sanctions

The American government announced this Friday (1st) the application of sanctions against three Iranian exchange companies. The objective, according to the government, is to directly reach Tehran’s financial system. The measure was released on the same day that the Iranian state agency IRNA reported that the country had sent a new negotiation proposal to the USA on Thursday (30).

According to the American press, the proposal did not please President Donald Trump. In a later statement, he said he was not confident that the Iranian government would meet the demands established in negotiations between the two countries. Still, Trump reiterated that he prefers a diplomatic solution to end the conflict.

“They are asking for things that we cannot accept. At the moment, we are doing everything in the field of negotiations, including by telephone”, declared the president, commenting on the offer presented by Tehran.

Trump publishes provocative image of Strait of Hormuz

One of the main points of tension between the United States and Iran remains the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic route through which around 20% of the oil traded in the world passes. Trump has been pushing for the full reopening of the passage, which is essential for transporting oil tankers.

On Wednesday (29), the president shared a provocative image of the region on the social network Truth Social, labeled as “Trump Strait”. Despite the suggestion of American control, the partial blockade of the road continues to be maintained by the Iranian regime, according to international authorities.

Survey shows Americans’ rejection of the war against Iran

A survey published by The Washington Post reveals that 61% of Americans consider the military actions carried out by the United States and Israel against Iran to be a mistake. Less than 20% believe that the operation was successful. For 39%, the offensive was unsuccessful, while 41% say it is too early to evaluate its results.

Despite the disapproval, support for the president remains high among Republicans: 79% believe that Trump made the right decision, a percentage that decreases among independent voters with a Republican inclination. The rates of rejection of the conflict are close to those recorded during the Iraq and Vietnam wars.

The survey also highlights strong concern about the side effects of the war. For 61% of those interviewed, the conflict increases the risk of terrorist attacks against Americans, and 56% believe that it harms US relations with international allies, which would not have been consulted before the start of military operations.
