Trump announced an increase in import duties on cars from the European Union

US President Donald Trump announced an increase in import duties on cars and trucks from the European Union from 15% to 25%. The new rates will come into effect next week, from May 4 to May 10.

The head of the White House justified this decision by violations of the terms of the trade agreement by Brussels, but did not give specific examples of non-compliance with the agreements.

According to the president’s statement, the move effectively renegotiates the trade deal reached in 2025 after a series of protracted economic conflicts between the parties.

It is worth noting that the US Supreme Court had previously opposed similar tariffs introduced by Trump at the beginning of his second term. Then the court ruled that the president had exceeded his powers. Judges and EU representatives have not yet responded to Washington’s current decision.
