Between Croatia and Serbia, a new country “emerged”! The president was denied entry

Verdis, officially the Free Republic of Verdis, is a self-proclaimed micronation located between Croatia and Serbia near Liberland. It was founded by 21-year-old Australian Daniel Jackson, who is currently ‘sentenced’ to ostracism in the United Kingdom.

Daniel Jackson, who currently lives in the UK, announced Verdis three years ago. His idea was to create a neutral zone that would serve as a haven for non-governmental organizations and international mediators. Ironically, he found inspiration in Vukovar, so the Verdis flag is blue-white-blue, while the coat of arms is decorated with a white stork (symbol of peace) and an oak (symbol of strength), writes Heute.

However, the young Australian’s national career ran into a wall and he tried to cross over to “his” territory. The Croatian police reacted quickly, and Jackson was sentenced to a permanent ban on entering the country.

The team around Jackson believed that they had found terra nullius, a low country, on the stretch of the Danube border where Zagreb and Belgrade are still arguing about the actual demarcation line.

However, the Croatian Ministry of the Interior made it clear: Verdis does not exist. According to international law, the disputed territory belongs to Croatia and is part of an unresolved border dispute, which means that it is not free for “occupation” by internet adventurers.

Jackson does not hide that his main role model is Vít Jedlika, an Czech activist who in 2015 similarly declared Liberland on the Danube field of Gornja Sig.
