Seoul is checking reports of a possible attack on a South Korean ship in the Strait of Hormuz

According to preliminary data, there were no casualties among South Korean citizens. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is investigating whether the damage was caused to the ship and its extent, as well as the circumstances of the incident.

Yonhap News Agency notes: “If the information is confirmed, this will be the first attack on a South Korean ship since the actual closure of the strait at the end of February.”

About 2,000 ships remain blocked in the strait, including 26 under the South Korean flag.

Earlier, the Iranian Fars agency reported that two Iranian missiles hit an American warship in the area of ​​Jask Island, at the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz. According to Fars, the ship allegedly ignored warnings from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps naval forces and tried to sail towards the strait, violating “navigation safety.” Fars states that after being hit, he was forced to turn around and leave the area.

CENTCOM said: “No U.S. Navy ships were harmed. U.S. forces are supporting Operation Project Freedom and maintaining a naval blockade of Iranian ports.”
