Soros Foundation allocates $300 million to defend democracy in the United States

George Soros’s Open Society Foundations will commit $300 million over the next five years to protect American democratic institutions and promote American economic security. Euronews reports this.

The decision was made against the backdrop of a confrontation between the fund and the administration of US President Donald Trump. In September 2026, the US Department of Justice ordered federal prosecutors to prepare plans for a possible investigation into OSF.

According to media reports, this order came after demands from President Donald Trump and concerns potential articles of fraud, money laundering, racketeering and “material support for terrorism.”

OSF then called the suspicions unfounded and politically motivated, emphasizing that all the fund’s programs are legal and not associated with violence. The foundation emphasized that attempts to link it with terrorism are pressure on civil society and freedom of speech.

Trump himself, speaking about Soros’ activities, said: “I keep hearing his name. If he finances this, they will have problems. These are anarchists.”

The Open Society Foundations (OSF) is one of the largest private donors to human rights and democracy initiatives around the world, with a total of $32 billion in grants. George Soros himself is 95 years old.
