US approves potential sale to Ukraine of equipment to support Hawk missile system

The United States Government has announced the approval of a potential sale to Ukraine of equipment to support the Hawk missile system, with a total estimated cost of 108.1 million dollars (about 91.3 million euros), without kyiv having commented on the matter.

The US State Department has indicated that it has approved this “possible sale of military material” to the Government of Ukraine, before stating that it “will support the foreign policy and national security objectives of the United States by improving the security of a partner country that constitutes a force for political and economic stability in Europe.”

“The Government of Ukraine has requested the purchase of trailers with detachable masts; major modifications and maintenance support; spare parts, consumables and accessories, as well as repair and return support; engineering, technical and logistical services from the United States Government and contractors; and other related elements of logistical and program support for the FrankenSAM Hawk missile systems,” he specified.

In this sense, he has defended that “the proposed sale of this equipment and support will not alter the basic military balance in the region”, while insisting that “there will be no adverse impact on the defensive preparedness of the United States” as a result of the sale, which will have Sirra Nevada Corporation, in Colorado, as its main contractor.
