Another blow to Brad: Maddox, Brangelina’s son, gives up the last name Pitt

Maddox, the eldest son of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, has filed an official request to drop the last name “Pitt” and change his name to Maddox Sivan Jolie. According to the report in the British “Daily Mail”, in the application submitted on Thursday, he justified the move with “personal reasons”.

This is not the first time Maddox has publicly distanced himself from his father’s name. Already in February he appeared in the credits of the film Couture, in which Jolie worked, under the name “Maddox Jolie” only. Previously, in the movie “Maria” about the opera singer Maria Callas, he also appeared as “Maddox Jolie-Pitt”.

The move joins a series of similar steps by the children of the former couple. Sheila, now 20, legally changed her name to “Sheila Jolly” last year. Zahra and Vivian also stopped using the name “Pete” in public events and professional credits.

Pitt and Jolie were married from 2014 to 2019, but their relationship fell apart long before the divorce was officially finalized. In the background was the well-publicized incident on a private flight in 2016, during which Jolie claimed that Pitt physically and verbally attacked her and the children. Pitt denied the allegations, and the FBI closed the investigation without filing charges.

According to the lawsuit that Jolie filed against the FBI in 2022, she claimed that Pitt also physically confronted Maddox, who was 15 at the time. Days after that flight, Jolie filed for divorce and asked for full custody of the children.

Despite the reports of a disconnection between Pitt and his adult children, sources quoted in the “Daily Mail” claimed that the actor is still interested in contact with his six children and that he is “not the absent father that he is portrayed as.”
