Appearance at Trump celebration: Milli Vanilli frontman sticks to US anniversary concert

Die Concert series is organized by a self-declared non-profit organization that is dedicated to the anniversary celebrations in the US capital – but these themselves go back to a call by Donald Trump.

The line-up between June 25th and July 10th was published on Wednesday. Shortly afterwards, several artists canceled their performances, including singer Lionel Richie’s former band, The Commodores, country singer Martina McBride and Poison frontman Bret Michaels.

The reason given by the musicians was that the event, which they said was non-partisan, was too politically charged. “Unfortunately, what was presented to us as a celebration of our country has evolved into something far more divisive than I originally agreed to,” singer Michaels wrote on Instagram.

The one produced by Frank Farian Pop duo Milli Vanilli celebrated success at the end of the 1980sher disco-pop hit “Girl You Know It’s True” sold more than 30 million copies worldwide. However, they were stripped of their Grammy in 1990 after it was revealed that they never sang themselves but instead moved their lips to the voices of others. The incident is considered one of the biggest cheating scandals in music history.

The actual voices behind the band – Jodie and Linda Rocco, Brad Howell, John Davis and Charles Shaw – also distanced themselves from the Washington performance in a post on Platform X. (dpa)
