The Film Academy vetoes generative AI in the project competition for the creation of the Cinema Museum

The Film Academy has called a competition for the creation of the Cinema Museumwith the objective of selecting a project for this center and carrying out the implementation and development of the winning proposal.

With this call, The Film Academy advances the plan to create a reference museum for Spanish cinema in the old NO-DO buildingan emblematic place in audiovisual history, which will be rehabilitated and conditioned for future use.

The rules, published this Thursday on the Academy’s website, expressly establish that the proposals must be original and cannot have been developed through generative or autonomous AI systems that replace human creative input.

Participants must present a sworn declaration guaranteeing that the project is the result of their intellectual creation, that it does not infringe the rights of third parties and that they hold exclusive ownership of the content presented. However, the document does admit the use of technological tools or artificial intelligence on a “merely technical or auxiliary, intended for tasks of document organization, operational processing or equivalent functions“.

The technical documentation of the building that will contain the plans will be available to interested parties before July 15, 2026, on said website. The mission, vision and programming criteria; a pilot programming plan; financing and communication plans; strategic forecast of the first five years of operation; design of educational and cultural activities for citizen participation; proposal of spaces and uses; adaptation of the project to the physical space; and development, from its design phase to opening to the public, are some of the contents that must be addressed in the proposals.

These will be evaluated according to the criteria of creativity, technical solvency, economic viability of the proposal, professional career of the applicants and the adaptation of the idea to the objectives of the Academy defined in its Statutes. The proposal with all the contents may not exceed 60 pages.

The jury of the contest will be equal and will be made up of five people, who will be designated for this purpose by the Board of Directors of the Academy, with the prior endorsement of the Ministry of Culture. They will be joined by the president of the Film Academy and/or the Minister of Culture, or the person designated by him. The jury’s decisions will be endorsed by the institution’s Board of Directors.

The valuation period will extend until November 30, 2026. Once it concludes, The jury will have 15 days to issue and communicate the rulingwhich will be made public through the website academiadecine.com/museo.
