Dalglish and Keegan’s battle with cancer

It may be a coincidence but in the space of a few hours two epic figures of British football, Kenny Dalglish e Kevin Keeganwho made millions of fans rejoice with their exploits, are back in the news for reasons that have nothing to do with sport: they are undergoing treatment for a tumor.

Dalglish, Scottish football legend, of Liverpool and of Celtic75 years old, would have preferred to keep the news confidential, but was forced to confirm it after an involuntary publication on social media. “I am currently undergoing cancer treatment. Unlike my phone usage, treatment is going well,” Dalglish wrote, asking for respect for his and his family’s privacy and thanking medical staff for the care he received.

Dalglish’s career

Considered one of the greatest footballers in British history, Dalglish holds the record for appearances for Scotland (102) and has scored 30 goals for the national team. With the Celtic he won four league titles and four Scottish Cups before moving to Liverpool in 1977 for a record fee. With the Reds he won three European Cups and eight English titles, becoming an icon of the club also as a coach.

Liverpool support

In a note, the Liverpool expressed its support for Dalglish and his family, asking for their privacy to be respected. Also Ian Rushhis historic teammate, dedicated a message of encouragement to him: “If anyone can face this battle with courage and determination, it’s Kenny”.

Keegan’s disease

Yesterday he was the former captain and manager of the English national team Kevin Keeganto publicly reveal that the cancer he was diagnosed with in January is stage four, the most advanced level. The news emerged during one of his first public appearances after announcing his illness.

“I had a car accident and had to undergo surgery – said Keegan -. During the pre-operative CT scan they discovered the tumor. They referred me to an excellent oncologist, explaining to me that the new proposed therapy had an exceptional success rate. When I asked what it was, they told me 33%. I thought it was 80 or 90%”.

A legendary story

Keegan75 years old, is one of the symbols of English and European football. As a footballer he enchanted the world with the shirt of Liverpool (1971-1977) and won two Golden Balls consecutive with Hamburg in 1978 and 1979. As a coach he led the Three Lions national team and came close to winning the Premier League in the 1995/96 season at the helm of Newcastle, finishing in second place.
