Misfortune: German holidaymakers crash in the Alps with their dog

Brandberg (Austria) – The German couple and their dog had several guardian angels. The two hikers and the animal fell more than 40 meters down a slope on the Geiskopf (2277 meters) in the Zillertal Alps. On Thursday afternoon, the demanding descent was their downfall.

Major rescue operation in snow and mud! According to the Tyrolean police, the woman (29) and the man (34) were from the Regensburg area (Bayern) around 3:20 p.m. on the way back from the summit and scrambled over a steep path and alpine meadows. The terrain there is sometimes up to 35 degrees steep – and dangerous given the wintry and slippery conditions that have been prevailing for days. The Germans lost their footing, slipped about 40 meters and only ended up lying in a field of pines.

After the crash, the man was able to make an emergency call, whereupon an emergency medical helicopter and the Mountain rescue Mayrhofen made their way to the described location of the accident. A police helicopter was subsequently alerted.

The rescuers first rescued the 29-year-old from the air using rope and flew her to the hospital hospital. Meanwhile, two mountain rescuers looked after their companion and his dog. Because the man was feeling poorly, according to the agency “zoom.tirol”, he and his dog were flown by helicopter to the valley, where the Regensburg resident was then taken to the doctor in an ambulance.

According to previous findings, the couple was lucky in misfortune and – like the dog – remained largely uninjured. However, the hiking holidaymakers were very wet and hypothermic.
