The union demands the revocation of Mai Golan’s decision to abolish the budgets of LGBT coordinators in municipalities

The local government workers’ union has demanded that the Minister of Social Equality, Mai Golan, reverse the decision to stop funding municipal LGBT coordinators.

In the letter, the union emphasizes that the dismissal of dedicated employees would violate their labor rights and deprive groups of the population in need of accompaniment and support, especially in the periphery and in municipalities with budgetary difficulties.

A funding program for LGBT coordinators in local councils has been in place since 2022, within the LGBT Promotion Unit of the Ministry of Social Equality. More than 80 local councils have hired such coordinators through the ministry’s “open competition” program – in many councils they are the only point of contact on LGBT issues.
