The Serbian government accuses the students of inciting the murder of Vučić

On Friday, high-ranking Serbian officials accused the student movement of lying and using a sonic weapon at a mass anti-government protest on March 15, 2025, and of trying to provoke street conflicts, as well as “the idea of the assassination of Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić and provoking of the civil war” in the country. The accusations promptly followed on the day when the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office announced in a press release that the investigation into the recent and unexplained death of a female student at the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade determined that the students in the blockade of the faculty arranged to “simulate” the use of a sound cannon at the student protest on March 15, one of the most massive in the recent history of Serbia. In Belgrade, at the invitation of students, on March 15, 2025, according to the claims of the non-governmental media, “the largest gathering in the history of the country” was organized, as one of a series of anti-government protests due to the death of 16 people in the fall of the canopy at the Novi Sad railway station on November 1, 2024.

At the time when silence was being paid to the victims, in the 11th minute, a sound broke through the street that caused panic in the street, and in the following days accusations appeared in the public that the police used the so-called sound cannon.

The intention of the students, as the prosecutor’s office claims, was to simulate that the state bodies used a sound cannon so that the authorities in Belgrade could be accused “in the domestic and international public” of using sonic weapons at the protest, with the aim of “creating panic in the public and fear among the citizens, and causing unrest.” which would lead to a violent change in the constitutional order and a threat to the security of the state”.

The students in the blockade responded on Friday to the accusations of the prosecutor’s office, saying that it is trying to “distract attention” from the fundamental questions about the events of March 15, 2025.

By organizing months-long protests, the student movement demanded the authorities’ responsibility for the tragedy at the Novi Sad station, accusing it of corrupt practices and poorly executed works on the reconstruction of the station that led to the death of 16 people.

The last in a series of demands is the calling of extraordinary elections, which the government has so far avoided, and the Serbian president has promised and announced in the meantime.

President of the Assembly of Serbia Ana Brnabić she accused the students of “organizing people, training them to cause a civil war in Serbia, to deepen hatred and divisions in society, to destroy and trample our country”.

“The idea was to kill Aleksandar Vučić and his family and cause a civil war in the Republic of Serbia,” said Ana Brnabić in a video statement.

The Minister of the Interior and First Deputy Prime Minister Ivica Dačić reacted similarly, asserting in a press release that the prosecutor’s office “completely exposed a monstrous and elaborately designed plan to cause mass panic, clashes on the streets and civil war through fabricated lies about the alleged use of a ‘sound cannon’.”

Dačić assessed that this multi-month plan was a “hybrid war against the State of Serbia and the Ministry of Internal Affairs” and that “it was a pre-planned scenario with only one goal” – provoking a civil war in Serbia.”

“Such dangerous subversive activities, which directly threaten the security of the Republic of Serbia, must be severely sanctioned. No one will be allowed to play with the state and the security of the people anymore”, said Dačić in communication.

Vučić, who calls the student movement a “colored revolution”, previously rejected claims about the use of the so-called sound cannon at the protest on October 15, and said that it was “a pre-organized and deliberate attack on the state in order to provoke absolute instability and the violent overthrow of the constitutional order”.
