The user data of the used goods sales platform Tor suggests that Finns received a lot of unpleasant electronics as gifts this Christmas. After the eve, most electronics were put up for sale at Tori, while usually Finns sell the most clothes and interior items.
Tori tells about it in his press release.
Based on the data, electronics have also interested buyers. On Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, gaming computers and Playstation 5 game consoles were most searched for in Tor.
According to a survey conducted by Tori in November, more and more people are selling the Christmas presents they have received. 33 percent of the respondents have sold the gifts they received after Christmas, and according to the release, the number has been increasing in recent years.
Attitudes differ
People’s attitude towards selling the gifts they receive varies. 37 percent of the respondents feel that it is not appropriate to sell gifts on. On the other hand, an almost equal share, 34 percent, feels that selling makes sense.
Based on the survey, many who have sold their gifts end up hiding their actions. Of the respondents who sold their Christmas presents, 41 percent did not tell the giver about it. 33 percent did not tell anyone about selling the gift.
“The reason for keeping the sale of a gift secret is clear: selling is associated with an impolite image, and some find it tactless. One in three Finns is upset if they see the gift they have given for sale after Christmas”, Tor’s manager Jenni Tuomisto says in the announcement.
Based on the survey, the most common reason for selling a gift is the wrong size or unnecessaryness. Money is only the fourth most common reason for putting a gift up for sale.
1,706 people responded to Tori’s survey. According to the release, 7 percent of the respondents were young adults, 26 percent in peak years, 23 percent middle-aged, 25 percent late middle-aged and 18 percent retired.
