The new Fondazione FS panoramic carriages making their debut

The new ones panoramic carriages from the Fs Italiane Foundation (FS group) debut on the railway Palazzolo sull’Oglio-Paratico Sarnicowhich this year celebrates its 150 yearsmarking a further evolution of railway tourism in Italy. The service will officially start on Saturday 27 June, and will continue every Saturday until 29 August, with eight scheduled trains, four in one direction and the same number in the other.

The project and program of the trains was illustrated this morning in a press conference at the station Central Milan by the Councilor for Transport and Sustainable Mobility of the Lombardy Region, who supported the project, Franco Lucenteby the councilor for Infrastructures and Public Works Claudia Terzi and by the General Director of the Fs Foundation Luigi Cantamessa.

The new panoramic carriages

The new carriages represent a concrete example of sustainability and enhancement of railway heritage. In fact, the project was born from the reuse and subsequent transformation of three decommissioned flat wagons into completely open panoramic cars, built at the Officine Grandi Riparazioni in Rimini through a project developed internally within the FS group, with the support of the best engineering excellence in the railway sector.

The project and the declarations

“Today we inaugurate a new phase in railway tourism through historic trains with panoramic carriages, the first ever built in Italy, which will shuttle between Palazzolo sull’Oglio e Paratico-Sarnicotraveling along the tourist railway of Lake Iseo. A concrete example of reuse of old decommissioned freight wagons and brought back to life as completely open carriages”, declared Cantamessa who added: “An important technical effort which has allowed us to introduce in Italy, as in Northern Europe, a model of slow shipping never experienced and capable of fully enhancing the territory. There Franciacorta and the Sebino today they are candidates for becoming a point of reference for national railway tourism. I thank the Lombardy Region for having made the start-up phase of this initiative possible which allows you to experience the train like never before.”

Immersive travel experience

The panoramic carriages offer tourists a truly immersive experience slowallowing them to admire the landscape they crossed without barriers. A slow and evocative journey through the vineyards of Franciacortathe river Oglio and the banks of the Lake Iseodesigned to enhance the territory and promote a new way of enjoying the railway and tourist heritage.

Cost and accessibility

The cost of the ticket to live this new experience is 15 euro A/R. It will be possible to reach Palazzolo sull’Oglio station with the regional trains of Trenorthpartner of the Fs Italiane Foundation in this initiative.
