Ukrainian home-made rockets hit Russian armaments factory

The Ukraine according to President Volodymyr Zelensky a defense plant in the Volgograd region of Russia was hit with Flamingo rockets of its own production.

The nighttime attack triggered a fire on the site of the Titan-Barrikady factory, Zelenskiy said on Saturday on the short message service Telegram. The plant produces artillery systems and components for rocket launchers.

At least ten people injured

The governor of the Volgograd region, Andrei Bocharov, confirmed damage to “a company’s production facilities,” but did not provide further details about what was being produced there. According to him, at least ten people were injured.

He wrote about attacking “high-speed flying objects” – which probably meant cruise missiles. Several local fires had been extinguished, Bocharov wrote. Residential buildings were therefore not affected.

Cruise missile with a range of 3,000 kilometers

The cruise missile was presented to the public for the first time last summer. According to media reports, the Flamingo missiles are said to have a range of 3,000 kilometers. However, previous missions have not always been accurate.

Zelensky thanked the Ukrainian army for its “precision” after the strike on the arms factory in Volgograd and described the rocket strikes on the Russian hinterland as “long-range sanctions.” The scope of these “sanctions” is constantly expanding, said Zelenskiy, according to the Ukrinform news agency.

Previously, Russian drone attacks in the Ukrainian regions of Dnipropetrovsk and Sumy claimed three lives. In the city of Nikopol, two people were killed and twelve injured in an attack on a minibus, the governor in charge said. A man died in another drone attack in the border region of Sumy. In addition, two people were injured in Russian attacks in the southeastern Zaporizhia region.
