Miracle three days after double earthquake in Venezuela: boy (11) rescued from rubble

Caracas (Venezuela) – Four days after the devastating double earthquake in Venezuela, desperation continues to grow. Relatives reported around 68,900 people missing on Saturday. The chance of finding her alive is extremely small. But small miracles in the destroyed area always provide hope.

Interim President Delcy Rodríguez (57) shared one of these miracles on X. The video shows rescuers taking a child out of a collapsed house. The scene was shot in Caraballeda, the capital of the Quake the most severely affected state is La Guaira. Rodríguez wrote: “A few minutes ago an 11-year-old boy was rescued alive in Caraballeda. In these hours, every life is hope for Venezuela.”

Hope is fading

But many videos also show the opposite of hope: residents climb over the rubble of their houses with breathing masks, the air is still full of dust. The smell of decay spreads in the oppressive heat. According to the government, over 14,000 soldiers and police officers are on duty, as well as countless helpers emergency services and aid organizations.

According to official figures, there are 1,430 deaths so farmore than 3,200 injured. Almost 70,000 people are still missing. They could already be dead. Aid organizations consider the first 48 to 72 hours to be crucial in rescuing people alive. If those buried have access to food and water, this window may be extended. But in the ruined landscape of cities, this is uncertain.

Anger at the government is growing

The double earthquake occurred on Wednesday evening just 39 seconds apart west of the capital Caracas. The two tremors had a magnitude of 7.2 and 7.5. According to an official statement, there have been around 430 aftershocks so far. As several Venezuelan media reports, the anger of those affected against the government is growing. There are allegations that police and National Guard officials are just taking selfies in front of the rubble instead of helping. Yeison Marcano, an aid worker, said: “They came to eat arepas (editor’s note) and take photos to make it look like they were working. They didn’t even get their uniforms dirty.”
