Trainer conference: Klopp: Already as national coach at the congress in Mainz?

Jürgen Klopp could soon speak to his colleagues in Mainz as the new national coach – if the 59-year-old comes to an agreement with the DFB and sticks to his appointments. The star coach is scheduled to give the opening lecture at the international coaching congress from July 27th to 29th.

This emerges from a press release from the Association of German Football Teachers. The BDFL is expecting around 1,400 football coaches from the professional and amateur sectors. In response to a dpa request, a spokeswoman said that they continue to assume that Klopp will come – but of course they will talk to him again.

After Julian Nagelsmann resigned as head coach of the German national soccer team, Klopp is the top candidate to succeed him. “With regard to the replacement of the coaching position, the DFB leadership will now seek discussions with Jürgen Klopp. He has already signaled his fundamental willingness to take on the position,” said a DFB statement.

Wück and Sebastian Hoeneß were also there

The Swabian has been working as Head of Global Soccer for Red Bull GmbH since January 2025. Before that, Klopp was very successful as a coach at Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool FC. With BVB he became German champion, with Liverpool he won the English title and the Champions League in 2019.

In addition to Klopp, other prominent coaches have announced themselves for the congress: women’s national coach Christian Wück, Sebastian Hoeneß from VfB Stuttgart, Marie-Louise Eta (1. FC Union Berlin Women), Florian Kohfeldt (SV Darmstadt 98) and Markus Gaugisch, head coach of the German handball players. The conference is considered a major industry meeting.
