In the American true crime series, a doctor who distributed amphetamines to the stars and a Finnish diplomat are mixed up

Max Jacobson (1900–1979) was a German-Jewish doctor who fled the Nazi rise to power, first to France and a few years later to the United States. There he started experimenting with the effectiveness of different injections on himself and his patients. The active ingredient in these “vitamin cocktails” or “miracle tissue reformers” was usually amphetamine or methamphetamine.

Jacobson gained popularity especially among entertainers. His medication also helped the senator John F. Jacobson himself used his own drugs, in increasing amounts over time. His career practically ended when the New York Times published a story about him research article in December 1972. His actions had already begun to be investigated, and his medical license was revoked in 1975. He died in December 1979.
