Marín, CEO of YPF, went through the UIA and defended the impact of Vaca Muerta on employment and SMEs

After the meeting with the representative of the mixed oil company, Martín Rappallini recounted the topics of conversation on the social network “about the need for this process to integrate local suppliers and translate into more opportunities for the entire production chain.”

At the meeting, as Clarín learned, Marín told the locals about the impact on employment and small and medium-sized businesses that the company’s investments have.

This is not the first time that the demand for oil companies to the process integrates local suppliers. The demand gained strength with the opening to imports and also with the arrival of the Large Investment Incentive Regime (RIGI), under which there were emblematic episodes such as the awarding of Indian pipes for the construction of a gas pipeline or the mining camp that will come from China.

These episodes were preceded by complaints from sector suppliers who warned of uneven competition with Chinese companies in the tenders carried out by oil companies.

At the end of May, imports carried out by 6 projects approved under the RIGI reached US$286 million. Of that total, 40% corresponds to Vaca Muerta Sur (VMOS), the pipeline that YPF is building together with other oil companies to export oil from Río Negro, which will be operational from the first quarter of 2027.

The data arises from a report published by the Chamber of Industrialists of Capital Goods Projects and Engineering, which states that 75 products “of special interest” have been imported, considering that they could be produced in the country by members of the chamber.

The impact on direct employment and how much they integrate small and medium-sized companies is a question that usually falls on the oil companies that lead the investment boom in Vaca Muerta. Marín referred to that issue on Friday in Córdoba.

“The large-scale development of Vaca Muerta will generate a peak of 90 thousand new direct and indirect jobs,” said Marín’s presentation. This peak would be observed in 2029 and includes investments in production and field exploration and also in infrastructure; adds both direct and indirect.

The CEO of YPF spoke of a “communication error,” pointing out that when they talk about the investment amounts they do not attribute the amount of employment it would generate. “Around 40 thousand constant jobs will be generated in the oil & gas sector, both direct and indirect, which would be doubling what there is today in the industry,” said Marín. According to the executive, the peak of 90 thousand will be linked to what the construction of the infrastructure will demand.
