US-Iran mutual accusations at the UN Security Council session

Mike Waltz, the US representative at the United Nations, accused Iran of violating the memorandum of understanding with the US ending the war, citing strikes on Gulf neighbors and disruption of traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.

“Iran cannot and we cannot allow it to hold the world economy hostage,” Waltz said, urging Tehran to stop attacks on neighboring countries and keep the Strait of Hormuz, key to international supplies, open.

The diplomat emphasized that there is a real opportunity for positive change on the table for the people of Iran, “but President Trump’s patience is not unlimited.”

In his speech, Bahrain’s foreign minister accused Tehran of “deliberately” targeting civilian infrastructure, noting that three people were killed and 465 injured as a result.

Iran’s representative at the UN, Amir Said Iravani, countered, claiming that the countries hosting American military bases were targeted by Iran because they were involved in the organization of American-Israeli military operations.

“The presence of American military bases in their countries not only does not bring security to those countries, but also makes them vulnerable,” the official said.

Washington’s representative called Tehran’s excuse “an attempt at global blackmail”.
