Melons: "A center-right president at the Quirinale? That’s not to say it can’t be overcome…

Is the possibility of a president of the Republic representing the centre-right, should he win the next elections, a terrible possibility for a certain establishment? “Yes clearly the establishment exists and perceives it.” This is how Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, guest on ’10 Minuti’ on ReteQuattro, responds.

“After that – he adds – it was thought that nothing could change and instead it was demonstrated that things could change and therefore, as many things have changed in recent years, it doesn’t mean that this too can’t change. That is – he clarifies – it doesn’t mean that this other great taboo can’t be overcome: that of having a President of the Republic who is not centre-left”. According to Meloni, a similar scenario at the Quirinale would be “another way of saying something that I have been trying to affirm all my life and with significant sacrifices, namely that those who are not left-wing are not children of a lesser God but have the same rights as others”.

Electoral law: it does not favor parties but Italians

“The electoral law that is being discussed is an electoral law that does not favor anyone, but which favors the Italians because the Italians choose who wins and our proposal, from this point of view, does not help anyone”. The Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni reiterates. The reform proposal “in fact – he observes – is opposed by all those who have governed without having won the elections because they want to continue” concludes Meloni.

The definition of remigration and relations with the United States

“The way I interpret the term remigration is assisted voluntary repatriation and we already do it.” Thus Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni responded to the question of what she means by remigration. “It means – adds Meloni – that I come to an agreement with these migrants to send them home”. Something – he specifies – that “the Italian State does, the European Union does, and the UNHCR does. Everyone does it. The problem you have – he acknowledges – is with those who don’t want to leave and there the issue clearly becomes a little more complex”.

“I am not anti-American today and I was not on my knees yesterday. I believe in a stronger West, especially if it is capable of remaining united and I have always believed this, yesterday and today”, continues the prime minister, returning to the controversy that arose after the statements of US President Donald Trump. “I’m also a frank person. And solid relationships are also based on frankness. But I’m a person who doesn’t let anyone disrespect me”, he underlined, pointing out once again that he has never changed his view on Trump and the relationship with the USA. And the ‘little finger’ he pointed to when speaking to Trump? “I was speaking, and I am a person who, as we know, gesticulates a lot”, clarifies the prime minister.

The oppositions, the Vannacci movement and labor policies

“It doesn’t seem to me that there is a big difference between the Honorable Vannacci’s movement and all the other opposition parties. They vote like the left, they want to send the government home just like the left, they just talk against us all day just like the left.” The Prime Minister reiterates this. “Yesterday – continues the prime minister – we had Schlein, Conte, Bonelli, Renzi, Gruber and dancing company. Today we have Schlein, Conte, Bonelli, Renzi, Gruber, dancing company and Vannacci”. With respect to the FnV, Meloni recognizes “that there are issues different from those of the left” and also “issues in which I am very interested and on which I have been working for several years. But then – she underlines – what matters is the fact that you can hardly build something with someone who clearly only wants to destroy”, Meloni cuts short.

“I have not become left-wing at all”, the prime minister finally clarifies, answering questions about the measures adopted for work. “So – continues Meloni – I must remember that the left has no longer been concerned with workers, their wages, job stability and improving workers’ conditions for a few decades. We have done this – claims the prime minister – with a series of measures that are producing results worth remembering”, he added citing the employment record, unemployment at its lowest and the record recorded in female employment.

Regarding fair wages, Meloni reiterated that “we must ensure that no worker is paid less than what is provided for by the national collective agreements stipulated by the most representative organisations”. “The fair wage – he underlined – recognizes a work of representation that is done by the associations that represent the workers and by the associations that represent the employers and therefore it is a much more liberal thing”.

Covid? Incredible facts, right to deal with

“This is an objectively incredible story. Perhaps facts do not emerge from the work of the Covid commission that deserve the attention of a journalist?”. This was underlined by the Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni speaking on ’10 Minuti’ on Rete 4. “The fact that it is said that commissions worth millions of euros of Italian money were given to import fake masks with a direct tender from China deserves a journalist’s attention, while there were people making all possible sacrifices to save Italians from Covid”, observes the Prime Minister. “Perhaps – continues Meloni – this story deserves a little more attention than that which the newspapers have dedicated for months to the Boccia case which they have been talking about for months…”.
