Sergio de Larrea leaves Valencia Basket and goes to the NBA

The Spanish international player Sergio de Larrea, a 20-year-old point guard who is 1.98 meters tall, has left Valencia Basket after having agreed to pay the termination clause included in his contract to join an NBA team.

“De Larrea ends a stage in our club that began at the age of 15 when he joined L’Alqueria del Basket, in which he has been a player in the first full-time professional team for the last two seasons and after which he will become the third Mur dels Somnis player who will have his opportunity in the best basketball league in the world,” Valencia said in a note this Saturday.

The ‘Taronja’ club thanked “the professionalism, commitment and work” carried out by ‘Larry’ during the time he has defended his shield and wished him “the best in his future, both professionally and personally.” Thus, he was chosen in 25th place in the recent Draft by the Los Angeles Lakers, but finally ended up with the Dallas Mavericks.

After training in the lower categories of the Colegio San Agustín in Valladolid, he joined Valencia in the summer of 2021 and made his professional debut at La Fonteta on January 11, 2023 in the last seconds of a victory against Anadolu Efes. “He accumulated five games of experience with the first team before becoming a full-fledged professional player in the summer of 2024,” the note recalled.

In the recently completed 2025-26 campaign, ‘Larry’ began helping the team win the Endesa Super Cup, being the MVP of that tournament. “From there, came a season in which he participated in 72 games with a score of 7.1 points with 38.7% in triples, 2.2 rebounds and 2.7 assists for 8.6 rating credits and which ended in the second Endesa League title,” the ‘Taronja’ entity summarized in its statement.

“Larry almost unanimously won the award for Best Young Player of the Endesa League and was once again named in the Best Young Quintet of the national competition,” highlighted the same statement. He also established himself in the squads of the Spanish national team’s youth teams, winning the silver medal in the 2022 U-17 World Cup and winning the gold medal in the 2023 U-19 World Cup.

Finally, Valencia marked the debut of ‘Larry’ with the senior team in a preparatory friendly for the 2024 Pre-Olympic against the Dominican Republic, played in Alicante on June 28, 2024, and also played his first major tournament with ‘La Familia’ in Eurobasket 2025.
