Gustavo Petro rejects the legitimacy of the Government of Abelardo de la Espriella and insists on electoral fraud | Colombia

The outgoing president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro toughened this Monday his rejection of the result of the second round of the presidential elections on June 21 by insisting that Abelardo de la Espriella “he did not win” and that he does not recognize the legitimacy of the Government that will take office on August 7.

The transition process between the outgoing Executive and the team of the president-elect, who will assume power on August 7, began last week with meetings between the vice president-elect, José Manuel Restrepo, and the outgoing Minister of Finance, Germán Ávila, who led the process while Petro met with Pope Leo XIV in Rome.

Petro and De la Espriella have ruled out meeting in person during the transition, so the transition is developed only through the teams designated by both administrations, an unprecedented fact in the country’s recent politics.
