A deal worth hundreds of millions: A Finnish company signed a giant contract with NATO countries

Finnish defense technology company forci and the Logistics Department of the Defense Forces have signed an agreement for the delivery of the Finnish Blocker sea mine system with the countries participating in the sea mine cooperation project (NMC). In the initial phase, in addition to Finland, Germany, Denmark, Norway and Lithuania are included in the agreement.

According to the company, the total value of the contract will reach hundreds of millions of euros.

CEO of Forcit Joakim Westerlund says that the aim of the project is to build a maritime mine-mining capability compatible with the NATO countries of the Baltic Sea and to strengthen the defense performance of the region.

“This contract is an important recognition of Forcit’s decades-long work as a developer and manufacturer of high-quality land and sea defense systems. Europe needs reliable and scalable defense solutions, and Forcit meets this need with the help of technological and industrial know-how and close customer cooperation,” says Westerlund.

Long-term order backlog

For Forcit, the contract means significant delivery and production volumes for several years. The agreement concluded now is based on the letter of intent signed in 2024 and the framework agreement drawn up based on it.

The Finnish-led NMC project is one of the most significant maritime defense joint projects in the Baltic Sea region in recent years. Belgium, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Finland and Estonia are participating in NMC cooperation.

In addition to joint procurement, the cooperation covers, among other things, maritime defense operational cooperation, logistics, life cycle management, exercises, training and the development of weapon systems.

Blocker system in the center

At the heart of the cooperation project is the Blocker sea mine system developed by Forcit. It is a system to be placed on the seabed that utilizes advanced sensor technology and so-called non-sensitive explosives. The system also includes long-term life-cycle support.

Forcit’s recent contract brings the Finnish defense industry visibly into European defense cooperation.

Forcit estimates that the project will strengthen the company’s position as a leading European supplier of regional control systems.
