USA signals that conclusion of tariffs for Brazil will be “soon”

US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, signaled in an interview with the broadcaster Fox News this Thursday (9) that the decision on the new tariff proposed for Brazil should be made “very soon”.

The Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) indicated in June that the country could face a new 25% charge on Brazilian products following the conclusion of an investigation into unfair trade practices.

According to Greer, although negotiations between the countries continue, there is a “considerable distance” between the positions of Brazil and the USA in relation to the new tariff.

“I have been talking to the Brazilians. We have been trying to negotiate. I think there is still a considerable distance between us. Therefore, you will see a final decision on Brazil very soon, because we have a legal deadline until July 15th”, declared the commercial representative to Fox Business Network.

The new statements from the Donald Trump administration come after the end of public hearings conducted by the Office of the US Trade Representative, in which senator and pre-candidate for the Presidency of the Republic Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) participated.

The USTR released the results of an investigation launched in 2025 against Brazil, which accuses the country of unfair trade practices. As an example, the US cites the supposed preference for Pix among electronic payment services, “unfair and preferential” tariffs and failures to apply anti-corruption measures, protect intellectual property and combat illegal deforestation.
