The EU accused Meta of violating technology legislation due to Facebook and Instagram

According to EU regulators, the investigation concerns functions that can make users addicted to social networks, including automatic video playback and endless scrolling of the feed.

The European Commission requires Meta to change these mechanisms, otherwise the company may face fines.

The preliminary findings were made as part of an investigation under the EU Digital Services Act, which obliges major online platforms to step up efforts to combat illegal and harmful content and reduce risks for users.

Meta said it did not agree with the regulators’ conclusions. The company claims that the European Commission did not take into account measures already taken by Meta to protect teenagers.
