Tampere celebrates Suomirock’s big week

Tampere will celebrate the first Finnish Rock Week from 1 to 9 August, during which the city will bring together concerts, side events and a program presenting the history of manse rock.

The week will kick off on Saturday, 1 August with the Manserock at the Stadium concert at Tammela Stadium. On Sunday, Finnish rock will play at the Hämeenpuisto Park Fiesta, and the week will culminate with Eppu Normaal’s three farewell concerts at Ratina Stadium from 6 to 8 August. The concerts are expected to attract a total of almost 100,000 spectators.

According to Saara Saarteinen, the City of Tampere’s event manager, the idea for the theme week was inspired by the exceptionally busy summer of events and the 70th anniversary of Popeda singer Pauli “Pate” Mustajärvi.

“Finnish rock songs are part of the common memory of Finns,” Saarteinen says in a press release.

The most visible new features of the week include the Manserock sing along area being built in Koskipuisto. There, visitors can sing well-known Manserock songs daily from 1 to 9 August from 2 pm to 8 pm. The area will be equipped with sound and a large screen where you can follow the lyrics of the songs.

During the theme week, Finnish rock-themed evenings in restaurants, bingo, discos and club gigs will also be organised. You can also learn about the history of Manserock at the Manserock exhibition in Vapriikki and on the Manserock trail connecting Kaleva and the city centre.

The beginning of August is also busy in Tampere with other events. The city is hosting, among others, Tampere Theatre Summer, Night of Events, the Philharmonic Park Concert in Sorsapuisto and the Moomin – Great Celebration event at Tampere Hall.
