Ten Croatian citizens, members of the crew of the tanker that was shot down by a drone in Egypt on Wednesday, are feeling well and there are no injuries, the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs (MVEP) announced on Friday. A drone struck a specialized gas storage tanker in Egypt’s Mediterranean port of Damietti, sparking a fire that spread to nearby vessels, British maritime security firm Ambrey reported.
The crew was evacuated, the fire was brought under control, and no one has yet claimed responsibility for the attack, Reuters reported.
– The competent Embassy of the Republic of Croatia in Cairo got in touch with one of the Croatian crew members, who confirmed that all the crew members are alive, that they feel well and that there are no injuries – it is stated in the MVEP press release.
According to information from the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure, there are ten Croatian citizens on board.
The drone struck the Energos Winter, a floating liquefied natural gas storage and gasification unit (FSRU), causing a fire that then spread to another vessel, the Gaslog Salem. The vessel is owned by the American company Energos Infrastructure, while the technical, safety and commercial management of the ship is managed by the American company Wilhelmsen Ship Management.
