Visa buys Israeli startup for .4 billion

Multinational credit card company Visa announced that it has acquired Israeli startup company BioCatch for $2.4 billion.

The company, founded in 2011, has developed a system for detecting and preventing fraud in the banking system using biometric and behavioral methods.

The company’s algorithm tracks and analyzes digital behavioral patterns based on 300 different parameters, including the manner and speed of typing a password and the way you hold the mouse.

In 2024, a majority stake in the company was purchased by investment fund Permira for $750 million, based on a company value of $1.3 billion.

BioCatch currently protects 1.8 billion devices and 760 million users worldwide and serves more than 350 banking clients in 21 countries. According to Visa, account takeovers and fraud are costing the global economy more than a trillion dollars, and artificial intelligence technologies are only accelerating the pace of such attacks. Over the past five years, Visa has invested more than $13 billion in technology and infrastructure to secure payment systems.
