Saving valuable water: 5 tips for every household

Water is a particularly valuable resource. In Austria, it is of good quality and readily available, but climate change, rising temperatures, and the current drought show that we, too, must use it carefully. Everyone can easily make a contribution in their daily lives.

In Austria, the average daily water consumption is around 130 liters per person. This means that Austrian households use roughly the volume of water from Lake Wolfgangsee annually. The majority of this is used for flushing toilets, daily personal hygiene, and cooking.

These tips will help you save water at home:

Turn off the tap. Don’t let the water run while washing fruits and vegetables, brushing your teeth, or washing your hands. This can save up to 15 liters per minute.

Install an aerator. This mixes air into the flowing water. The water stream feels full, but only delivers a third of the water volume through the tap.
