The star causes concern: “Let’s stop pretending it’s normal”

“Wednesday” star Jenna Ortega (23) finds herself at the center of a storm. A video from an interview of the actress for the magazine “Esquire” managed to completely divert the attention of fans from her answers – to her slim figure and appearance.

“Are you okay?” asked one commenter while another added: “Sorry if this sounds rude, but is she sick? She just doesn’t look well.” Many commenters expressed frustration with the general trend in Hollywood and wrote: “I’m tired of seeing everyone shrink” and “Why did she get so thin? I hope these celebs start taking care of themselves more.” There were also those who chose to take a more practical (and cynical) approach: “I urgently need some taco kits, ground meat and beans to gain weight.”

Another viral post about the star reads: “How and why is no one else alarmed by the fact that she is so thin? Let’s stop pretending that this is normal and healthy and that she has ‘always been this thin’. Because she wasn’t, it is deeply worrying and I really fear for her safety.” Another comment read: “I agree that the change is very noticeable, and I completely understand why people are worried because it really doesn’t seem normal. I just hope she’s okay and there are people around her who are watching over her,” while others expressed another concern about the star: “Are they starving her?”

On the other hand, not everyone rushed to join the criticisms and some fans came to Ortega’s defense, and attacked the visitors. “To all those who diagnose her body without a degree or doctorate in nutrition – if you don’t feel comfortable with your body, that’s your problem, but stop attacking other people’s physical appearance.”

This comes at the same time as what the actress revealed in the very same interview to the men’s magazine: Ortega, who started acting at the age of 9, candidly shared how her intense desire to please the production as a child star led her to extreme self-neglect on set. “As a child, I was so grateful for the opportunity and excited to be there, I was completely goal-oriented,” she shared. “I wouldn’t even ask for a sip of water. I would spend whole days without eating, without drinking, without anything, because I wanted so badly not to disturb anyone on the way.” She later admitted: “Maybe it was my mistake, that I didn’t really take care of myself.”
