Bundesliga: Former captain Andrich should stay in Leverkusen

National soccer player Robert Andrich probably has a future at Bayer Leverkusen. “I assume that he will stay,” said sports director Simon Rolfes after the 2024 double winners’ 3-2 opening defeat at Bundesliga newcomers SV Elversberg.

Not in the squad in Elversberg

The 31-year-old Andrich still has a contract with Bayer until 2028. Nevertheless, the club management suggested that he look for a new club due to his likely low prospects of regular playing time.

At the moment it is actually the case that he “initially takes on a supporting role in this position in midfield. He deserves to know that,” said new coach Carles Martínez recently. He wanted to be “honest”. Andrich, who was not in the squad in Elversberg, was replaced as captain by Edmond Tapsoba.
