The ex-gang leader was found guilty of Tupac Shakur’s murder

The decision by a Las Vegas jury ends a decades-long unsolved murder case.

The famous rap artist was shot several times from a drive-by in Las Vegas on September 7, 1996. He died of his injuries a few days later.

Shakur was 25 years old when he died and one of the most commercially successful and influential artists in rap music.

After deliberating for nearly three hours, a 12-member jury unanimously found Davis guilty of first-degree murder with a deadly weapon. The crime can be sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.

BBC:n by Davis’ expression did not waver as the jury found him guilty. The police then escorted Davis out of the courtroom.

Davis told the judge he plans to appeal the case.

Several people in the courtroom audience wiped away tears and hugged the prosecutor after the court session ended, Reuters reports.

Davis was accused of leading a group that set out to kill Shakur in revenge for the abuse of Davis’ nephew. Davis pleaded not guilty.

The police have said that they suspected Davis for a long time, but the evidence was not enough to press charges until Davis began to tell about the events publicly in media appearances and in his memoir.

These statements, along with recordings of his secret meetings with investigators, formed the bulk of the prosecutors’ evidence.

According to Davis’ lawyer, his client’s words were mere threats and could not be confirmed by another screen.

The trial began on August 17.

Prosecutors played hours of recorded conversations in court in which Davis said he was enraged after Shakur and his entourage assaulted Davis’ nephew at a Las Vegas casino on Sept. 7, 1996.

Davis’s reportedly, after the assault, he and three other men, including his nephew, went out that night to find Shakur and the record company executive Marion ”Suge” Knightia in a white Cadillac.

Davis said he reached for the gun in the back seat of the car. When they found Knight and Shakur’s car, one of the men in the back seat opened fire.

Prosecutors have not named the shooter, and all three other men in the car have since died. Under Nevada law, Davis could be convicted of murder even if he didn’t pull the trigger himself.

Davis was the leader of the Southside Compton Crips street gang operating in the Los Angeles area. The gang was feuding with the rival Mob Piru gang, which had ties to Shakur and his label Death Row Records.
