Italian The F1 race weekend celebrates Ferrari’s superstar Michael Schumacheria. Ferrari runs the race in a specially colored car. In addition, various events celebrating Schumacher’s career will be held in Monza throughout the weekend.
The seven-time world champion was seriously injured in a skiing accident in 2013 and has not been seen in public since. Schumacher’s influence on F1 and Ferrari can still be seen and felt today,
Like Schumacher, winner of seven F1 world championships Lewis Hamilton remembers Schumacher both as a role model and as a competitor.
Brittikuski spoke emotionally about “Schum” on Thursday in front of the international media.
Hamilton wore a special shirt detailed with seven stars to celebrate Schumacher’s seven world championships. It made Hamilton feel a strong connection with the German champion.
“Putting on the seven-star shirt felt right because I have seven stars too. It feels good. I feel like this shirt belongs to me too,” Hamilton said.
Ferrari will have seven stars on its bow in honor of Schumacher this weekend.
Year then in Monza the deceased was celebrated Niki Lauda. He was a close friend of Hamilton. Now it’s time for another commemoration – although Schumacher is of course still alive. In the F1 pit, he will hardly ever be seen again.
Hamilton started talking about Schumacher in a very nostalgic tone. He said that Schumacher was the big reason why he fell in love with racing at a young age.
“I remember from my childhood how the best Sundays were when you heard the old F1 theme song on the TV. It was so much better than this one now. I heard it downstairs – now the races start! Hamilton recounted enthusiastically.”
“I ran downstairs and I remember watching Michael in the red car. I remember playing F1 games as a kid and I was always in Michael’s Ferrari. I tried to imagine what it would be like to be in his position. It’s just unbelievable that I get to experience it now.”
Hamilton also said that Schumahcer was an exceptional leader for him. The German driver often gets a lot of praise for turning Ferrari’s bottom half into a series of championships since 1996, with good reason.
Schumacher, Jean Todt and Ross Brawn formed the core group that propelled Ferrari back to the top.
Schumacher’s first Ferrari from 1996 was not a masterpiece, but the German still won three races with it.
When Hamilton came to Ferrari, it was hoped that he would return the team to the championship position. Britti, however, denied that Schumacher’s example in this regard inspired him in any way.
Instead, Hamilton said that he did a lot of work behind the scenes last year to change and develop the car. It is now bearing fruit.
“I am in no way copying Michael. This is like a huge ship, and the driver’s job is to do things alongside others and help the team in the right direction. It is often the case that when anyone comes to the team from the outside, they see things” that are not necessarily noticed from the inside.
Hamilton said that he wanted certain things to be changed in the car, and they could not be implemented last year due to the spending cap. Now changes have been made, and Hamilton’s performances have improved dramatically.
“I worked hard in the simulator and the team people planned the changes, then I tested them again in the simulator. Now those things are available to us every race weekend. My job is to highlight what things work or don’t work and bring an outsider’s perspective. We do a lot of things really well here, but no one is perfect.”
