Iraq agreed to Iran’s proposal to conduct a joint investigation into the circumstances of the appearance of platforms for launching attack drones in the border area of the two countries.
As reported by the Iraqi Video Agency, citing a statement by the representative of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Sabah al-Nuaman, Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi approved the Iranian side’s request to conduct a joint investigation.
On the same day, al-Zaidi ordered the removal of the chief of police of Maysan province and the transfer of the leaders of the security forces operating in the province to investigation. According to al-Nuaman, the decisions were made in connection with the latest security breaches in Maysan.
Earlier, the commander of the operations in Maysan was also dismissed, and an investigative commission was created in relation to the command. Iraqi authorities said they had established that the drones that attacked targets in Saudi Arabia were launched from one of the facilities in this province.
Saudi Arabia reported on September 11 that drones flying from Iraq attacked the East-West oil pipeline. After this, Iraqi authorities launched a large-scale operation to search for those involved in the attack.
