The Deputy Prime Minister proposed that Guangxi create favorable conditions for Vietnamese goods

On September 16, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Tuc met Mr. Tran Cuong, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, in Nanning, China. The meeting is within the framework of the China-ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO) and the 23rd China-ASEAN Trade and Investment Summit (CABIS).

According to the Deputy Prime Minister, Guangxi and Vietnamese localities need to move from simple trade to extensive economic links. The two sides also need to effectively deploy existing cooperation mechanisms, while expanding connections between potential localities.

He proposed that Guangxi continue to create favorable conditions for Vietnamese goods to be imported into China or transshipped through this area to third countries. Guangxi’s capable enterprises are also encouraged to expand high-quality investment in Vietnam.

Regarding infrastructure, the Deputy Prime Minister proposed that the two sides coordinate to ensure the progress of the Lang Son – Hanoi and Mong Cai – Ha Long – Hai Phong standard gauge railways connecting with Guangxi. These are routes that are expected to increase cargo transport capacity and reduce logistics costs between Vietnam and China.

The two sides also need to soon operate the smart border gate model, deploy cross-border economic cooperation zones, upgrade and open additional pairs of agreed border gates. Connecting maritime and waterway transport and completing border gate infrastructure are also identified as areas that need to be promoted.

In addition to trade and infrastructure, the Deputy Prime Minister proposed expanding cooperation in science, technology, artificial intelligence and digital transformation in education, health care, transportation and agriculture. The two sides continue to effectively operate the Ban Gioc – Duc Thien waterfall tourist landscape area and coordinate land border management.

Mr. Tran Cuong said that Guangxi is ready to coordinate with Vietnamese ministries, branches and localities to increase supply chain connections, production, rail and road connections and complete border gate infrastructure.

Guangxi is also committed to facilitating agricultural and fishery trade with Vietnam and encouraging businesses here to invest in high quality in Vietnam. The two sides plan to increase cooperation in human resource training, tourism, science and technology and people-to-people exchanges.

In recent times, cooperation between Vietnamese localities and Guangxi has expanded in trade, logistics, transportation, science and technology and artificial intelligence. This locality is an important gateway for Vietnamese goods when exported to China via land.
