Nephew of businessman Carlos Pedro Blaquier, Andrés was the director of the agricultural business of the Blaquier family, which in turn owns the sugar engineer Ledesma, in the province of Jujuy.
Agricultural Engineer graduated from the Argentine Catholic University (UCA) and father of three childrenBlaquier lived with his family in the La Alborada neighborhood, opposite the renowned Martindale gated community, and was a first cousin of Carlos, Alejandro, Santiago and Ignacio Blaquier, members of the Ledesma Group board of directors.
Andrés, whom his relatives describe as “a guy very affable, lovable, passionate about Argentina”, was in charge of the segment dedicated to grains and meats of the agro-industrial company, one of the four main areas of activity together with the production of sugar and alcohol, paper and fruits.
He had “three fields in the Province and one in Entre Ríos, controls 52,000 hectares and sows 35,000 hectares of crops, the rest is livestock”, said Blaquier himself about his activity during an interview with AgroEmpresario, in 2016. He said at that time who had acquired the last lands in 2000, in Pehuajó. “All of our agricultural production is sustainable,” he said.
Passionate about the rural, Blaquier was a “connoisseur of the issues”, as described in Ledesma.
Blaquier was general manager of La Biznaga cabin and explained about the agricultural businesses: “The greatest profitability is in the internal transformation of the processes.”
The businessman said in an interview with Agrofy News in 2021: “We came to plant 18,000 hectares of crops on rented fields that brought us low profitability. Today, we no longer do. Instead, in just five years, we went from a production of 2 million kilos of meat to a potential seven million in the last year and we aim to raise that figure to 8.6 million in two years.”
Ledesma’s statement
After Blaquier’s crime, the Ledesma company published a statement describing him as “an endearing person, with great love for Argentina, his country, and great passion for what he did.” Below the full text:
“With deep sadness, we announce that Andrés Blaquier, director of the Ledesma Agricultural Business, passed away on Saturday night. Andrés was on his motorcycle with his wife on the Pan-American Highway, at km 50, when he was robbed and He was shot, one of which hit his chest. The criminals fled and he was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, but he died. His wife was unharmed.
Andrés was 62 years old, he was an agricultural engineer and general manager of La Biznaga, Ledesma’s agricultural business in the Pampa Húmeda, which is based on four establishments in the provinces of Buenos Aires and Entre Ríos. There he produces meat and cereals on a total area of 51,000 hectares, which includes a 5,500-hectare protected nature reserve.
Andrés Blaquier was a first cousin of the current Ledesma shareholders. He was an endearing person, with a great love for Argentina, his country, and a lot of passion for what he did. He had extensive knowledge of agricultural activity in the Humid Pampa, to which he dedicated his life. Today we bid him farewell with deep sorrow.”
