After the fatal knife attack in Mannheim, people have spent around 600,000 euros on the internet platform gofundme.com donated. The donations will go to the relatives of the killed police officer Rouven L.
“We are still very grateful for the high level of willingness to donate, which surprised us at first,” said a spokesman for the “Alliance of the Blumberg Evidence Preservation and Arrest Unit.” The alliance launched the appeal shortly after the knife attack.
The association was founded by federal police officers after the fatal collision between two police helicopters in Berlin in 2013 to support their colleagues affected. The fundraising campaign ends on Tuesday.

According to the spokesman, the association has already transferred 45,000 euros to the Baden-Württemberg Police Foundation, which has also collected money to support the family.
The spokesman said that they are in close contact with the family’s lawyer to transfer the remaining amount directly to the 29-year-old’s relatives. Lawyer Thomas Franz confirmed the procedure.
The spokesman had originally said that the entire amount of money would go to the police foundation and from there “to the relatives of Rouven L. and the other victims of this attack within the Police authorities“.

The police foundation says it is in contact with the alliance regarding the donations. A spokesperson also confirmed that the foundation will support the colleagues in the affected squad in Mannheim.
The foundation does not want to comment on how much money it has received for Rouven L.’s family.
