Cora and Match stores to switch to Carrefour

This is a new step in the restructuring of the French mass retail landscape. A year after announcing its acquisition, the Carrefour group has officially set foot in the Cora (60 hypermarkets) and Match (115 supermarkets) stores, historically located in the east and north of France. “This is a major and structuring operation,” Carrefour CEO Alexandre Bompard said on Monday, “the most important since the acquisition of Promodes,” named after the group that owned the Continent, Champion, Shopi brands, etc. That was more than twenty years ago.

This time, it concerns the acquisition, formalized in July 2023, of some 175 stores from the Louis Delhaize group. Although the Competition Authority has not yet ruled on the merits of this matter, it has nevertheless granted an exemption to the Carrefour group so that it can begin the integration of points of sale (22,000 employees in total including the Provera purchasing center).
