“At least one” arrest made in connection with death of ‘Friends’ actor Matthew Perry

At least one person has been arrested in connection with the death of ‘Friends’ actor Matthew Perry on Thursday, multiple US media reports.

Matthew Perry, best known as Chandler Bing on the hit sitcom Friends, was found dead in a hot tub at his California home in October of last year. An autopsy revealed that his death was the result of an overdose of ketamine, a tranquilizer that is also used as a recreational drug and as a treatment for depression.

Perry, who was 54 at the time of his death, had been outspoken about his struggles with drug abuse and addiction. He had said, among other things, that he had been undergoing ketamine therapy to treat depression and anxiety, but his last session was more than a week before his death. The autopsy report also noted that the ketamine in his system at the time of his death could not have come from the infusion therapy.

An investigation into the actor’s death has been opened, and an anonymous police source confirmed Thursday that an initial arrest had been made in Southern California. There may be more arrests, although only one has been formally confirmed. A police press conference is expected later in the day, but it is not yet clear who the arrested person or persons are or what exactly they are suspected of. According to TMZ.com, one of the arrested people is a doctor.

Text messages

The arrest or arrests were allegedly made based on text messages that the police found on Perry’s phone, according to several American media. The messages allegedly stated, among other things, how much ketamine the actor wanted to order, where it should be delivered and how much he would pay for it.
