AI Helps Optimize Cancer Treatment Outcomes

Dr. Nguyen Hai Tuan, Digosys Bioinformatics Consultant, said that the Genomate solution uses AI to analyze genetic data and propose cancer treatment methods for each patient.

The above information was given by Dr. Nguyen Hai Tuan in his speech at the Vietnam Artificial Intelligence Day 2024 on the morning of August 23. At the beginning of his speech, he presented the current state of cancer in Vietnam, recording about 180,840 new cases and 120,184 deaths in 2022. At the same time, there are limitations in diagnosis and treatment.

“Late diagnosis and lack of modern equipment are factors that reduce the effectiveness of cancer treatment,” said Dr. Nguyen Hai Tuan, adding that the world is shifting towards precise treatment methods, molecular profiling tests and reducing side effects for patients.

Mr. Tuan mentioned Digosys’ Genomate solution developed based on AI, aiming to improve treatment efficiency and personalize cancer therapy for each patient, helping to increase survival rate, tumor response, prolong life, and improve the quality of life of patients.

“Genomate is being applied to about 10,000 patients worldwide, winning the AI breakthrough innovation award in cancer treatment, and participating in the Mayo Clinic’s acceleration support program,” the doctor introduced. According to him, doctors and patients, management systems, researchers, and insurance partners all benefit when implementing Genomate services. If applied in Vietnam, Genomate will improve the quality of health care, reduce cost pressure, and create a breakthrough for the health sector.

Accordingly, Genomate is a clinical decision support system (CDSS), developed to optimize cancer treatment, through the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to prescribe the right targeted drugs and immunotherapy that each patient needs. This system aims to improve treatment effectiveness and personalize cancer therapy for each patient, helping to increase survival rates, increase tumor response rates, prolong progression-free survival (PFS) and improve patient quality of life.

The system uses AI to analyze big data from genomics, molecular biology, and clinical information to recommend effective treatments. At the event, Digosys representatives also presented applications of AI in the medical field including: radiology, endoscopy, digital pathology, and drug discovery.

The workshop is the kick-off event for the Vietnam Artificial Intelligence Day (AI4VN 2024), held at the National Convention Center, Hanoi. Taking place from 8am on August 23, four consecutive sessions (AI Workshop) with famous speakers and artificial intelligence experts from research units, businesses, universities, exchanging experiences, finding solutions to current challenges and maximizing the benefits of AI technologies.

AI4VN 2024 has the theme “Unlock the power of Generative AI”. The event is directed by the Ministry of Science and Technology, organized by VnExpress Newspaper in coordination with the Club of Information and Communication Technology Faculties – Institutes – Schools (FISU), starting from 2018.

In addition to the main session of AI4VN (AI Summit) taking place on the afternoon of August 23 with the participation of leaders of the Government, ministries and international organizations, within the framework of AI4VN 2024, an exhibition (AI Expo) including booths displaying typical AI products of businesses, institutes, schools… Attendees have the opportunity to experience new AI application products available on the Vietnamese market.
