Israel to pay Moldova 700,000 shekels to allow Braslav Hasidim into Ukraine

The Finance and Foreign Affairs Ministries will pay the Moldovan authorities 700 thousand shekels of debt for last year in order to ensure the passage of Braslav Hasidim into Ukraine on the eve of the Jewish New Year.

As the news service reports “Blood Hadashot”the debt was incurred during the last Jewish New Year, when the Israeli government took part in organizing the pilgrimage and asked the Moldovan authorities to strengthen security measures at the Chisinau airport and border crossings.

Moldova’s Chief Rabbi Pinchas Salzman called on the Israeli government to leave organizational issues to the local community this year and help only with financing, but so far Jerusalem has only found money to pay off last year’s debt.

It is expected that about 50 thousand Braslav Hasidim will travel to Uman via Moldova.
