Microsoft Copilot+ AI features coming to Intel and AMD-powered devices in November

Microsoft announced that the Artificial Intelligence (AI) capabilities of PC Copilot+ are coming to Intel and AMD PCs starting in November, powered by the latest generation Intel Core Ultra 200V and AMD Ryzen AI 300 processors.

In May, the technology company presented the new category of Copilot+ computers, with which Microsoft places AI at the center of Windows thanks to the ability to operate locally, as well as including new functions such as the ‘Recall’ “photographic memory” system and the Cocreator tool for generating images.

As defined by Microsoft at the time, Copilot+ is a new type of Windows PC designed to take better advantage of AI, since they operate with this technology directly from the ‘hardware’ and include support for functions driven by this technology built into the entire operating system.

These devices also feature a new system architecture designed to deliver improved performance, longer battery life, and innovative AI experiences to enhance productivity.

Initially, the Copilot+ PCs were launched with Qualcomm processors, specifically the Snapdragon X Elite and Snapdragon X Plus chips. However, the company has already announced that it will be available for models with processors from other brands, Intel and AMD, later on.

Now, Microsoft has announced that Copilot+ PCs and their AI features will be expanding to AMD and Intel devices starting next November, with the AMD Ryzen AI 300 series of processors and the new Intel Core Ultra 200V.

In the case of AMD, the company unveiled its new AMD Ryzen AI 300 series of processors last June, that integrate the neural thinking unit (NPU) capable of achieving an AI processing power of 50 TOPS.

For its part, Intel has presented its new processors this Wednesday, which will arrive on September 24 and which have with lower power consumption and performance up to 120 TOPS. Specifically, these chips are powered by an NPU that reaches 48 TOPS, which adds to a CPU capacity of 67 TOPS and a CPU power of 5 TOPS.

In this context, as the American technological giant has stressed in a statement on its blog, las Copilot+ PCs powered by the latest generation of Intel and AMD chips “will take full advantage of these hardware improvements,” which translates into “significant advances” in performance, battery life, security and connectivity.

In addition, in the area of AI features, Microsoft has announced that “select features” will be available through the Windows Insider community before they are generally launched on new Copilot+ computers.

This will give users early access to features such as live subtitles with translation, some Windows Studio effects – such as background blur, portrait blur or automatic framing -, the Cocreator image generation tool in Paint and the Restyle image and Image Creator tools. In the case of the Recall tool, Microsoft has recalled that it will begin to be initially implemented through the Windows Insider community starting in October.

Devices with the latest generation of AMD and Intel processors will be able to start using AI experiences with Copilot+ through free Windows updates starting in November.
