Google and Apple to pay EU billions of euros

The European Court of Justice has issued two rulings in two days, ending the European Commission’s long-running battle with Google and Apple.

In particular, a court in Luxembourg overturned a lower court’s decision and ordered Apple to pay €13 billion in taxes in Ireland, which were deemed to be an illegal state subsidy.

The court also sided with the head of the European antitrust authority, Margarethe Vestager, and ordered Google to pay 2.4 billion euros in fines for unfair competition.

It should be noted that the decisions of the European Court will not affect the current financial performance of corporations, since the amounts in question were already paid by them several years ago.
