Helsinki-based clothing manufacturer Nomen Nescio is filed for bankruptcy

The internationally quoted fashion brand is trying to apply for corporate restructuring.

From Helsinki the clothing manufacturer Nomen Nescio oy is filed for bankruptcy.

Insolvency register of information according to the bankruptcy application has been filed in Helsinki district court on Wednesday. The applicant is a tax accountant.

Told about it earlier Ilta-Sanomat. According to the newspaper, however, Nomen Nescio aims to continue its operations and plans to apply for corporate restructuring.

Married couple Nina and Timo Leskelä founded the Nomen Nescio fashion label in 2012.

The brand’s minimalist design strives for timelessness and sustainable fashion, as well as using ecological materials and production.

All the brand’s clothes are black in color and made in Europe.

Nomen Nescio has also received international attention, when, among other things, British Vogue presented it as a pioneer of gender-neutral fashion in 2018. The brand has also attracted interest at the Paris Fashion Weeks.

Nomen Nescio opened its flagship store on Helsinki’s Mikonkatu in 2021. Since then, the store has moved to smaller premises on Mikonkatu and then to Fredrikinkatu.

Managing director Niina Leskelä has mentioned in a magazine interview the cause of the company’s financial distress is, among other things, the pandemic and the war in Ukraine, which has changed consumer behavior and also reduced the number of foreign customers arriving in Helsinki.

More than a year ago, Nomen Nescio tried to avoid bankruptcy with a crowdfunding campaign.

In Ilta-Sanom, Leskelä states that the campaign was successful. According to him, the last year has been difficult for the company even compared to previous years.
