Blow to motorists. Codacons reports 2.14 billion increase in car insurance

“Car insurance rates continue to rise in a completely unjustified manner, resulting in an overall blow of over 2 billion euros for car insurance companies. Italian motorists”. Codacons states this, commenting on the latest Ivass data.

“Starting from the second half of 2022, insurance policy prices began to rise, bringing the average premium in August 2024 to 418 euros, according to the latest data released by Ivass – explains Codacons – this means that in two and a half years the tariffe Rc auto have undergone an overall increase of 18.4%, going from an average of 353 euros in January 2022 (IVASS data) to the current 418 euros, with an increase of well 65 euros per policy”. Increases, concludes Codacons, “that do not appear to be justified by the increase in accidents in Italy, and that clash with the economic situation of insurance companies. Price increases that, considering the 32.9 million cars insured in Italy, have determined in the last two years an overall blow of 2.14 billion euros to the detriment of Italian motorists”.

Ivass data

In August the average price of‘rc auto is 418 eurosup by +6.7% on an annual basis in nominal terms (+5.6% in real terms). This is what the Ivass survey revealed, according to which all Italian provinces register price increasesbetween +2.6% in Foggia and +12.0% in Rome. The premium differential between Naples and Aosta is 272 euros, up +9.7% on an annual basis and down 42.4% compared to the same month in 2014. For insured persons belonging to merit classes higher than the first, the average price increase is +10.4% compared to an increase of +6.1% for first class insured.
